HOLLY SPRINGS, NC- The Salamanders won the penultimate game against their affiliate rivals the South Wake Shakes, Sunday night. The Sal’s used a five-run first inning to propel themselves to victory as the final score was 8-2. Great pitching from four pitchers limited the damage to just two earned runs for South Wake.
10 batters came to the plate of Holly Springs to begin the game in the first. Brice Martinez scored the first run of the game, after he stole second and third on consecutive pitchers. Martinez also the Salamander who got to bat twice. Four more runs came around, as Patrick Trease was given the hook early only recording one out.
“Celebrity” coaches Hunter Stevens and Andrew Davis had their hands full juggling a lineup and substitutions for the first time in their exceedingly early coaching careers for the Shakes.
The Shakes would at one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings to get on the board, but those two would be the only runs of the night for the affiliate club.
The final count would be 8-2 in favor of the home team Salamanders, who have won all seven meetings this year.
The festivities continued with a homerun derby. Daniel Brown was able to defend his title against Baxter Halligan in a great outing raising money for the Pretty in Pink Foundation, supporting breast cancer survivors.
A busy week is ahead for Holly Springs, they will play six games in seven days starting tomorrow in Tri-City. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and will be the fourth meeting between the clubs this season. You can catch the action on flobaseball.tv
