The Coastal Plain League is excited to announce the 2024 All-CPL First and Second Teams. Each team features 30 players: one player per each infield position, six designated hitter/utility players, eight outfielders and 11 pitchers (a combination of starters and relievers). Teams were selected with input from CPL head coaches.

The teams are highlighted by CPL Hitter of the Year Lucas Carmichael (Martinsville Mustangs / William & Mary) and Pitcher of the Year Jack Decker (Morehead City Marlins / Saginaw Valley State) – both First Team selections. Additionally, five of the position players – Carmichael, Danny Estrada (Frostburg State), Grayson Fitzwater (VMI), Jack Kail (Columbia), and Zach Evans (Lenoir-Rhyne) – were also honored as Trackman Hitters of the Week during the season, while one pitcher – AJ Campbell (Barton College) – was named as Trackman Pitcher of the Week. Further, 40-of-the-60 All-CPL honorees were CPL All-Stars earlier this summer.

Also intriguing about this year’s All-CPL Teams is that of Peninsula’s two-way player Trey Morgan (VMI, picture courtesy of Ralph Wood & Jim Arend). Morgan, who grew up around the Pilots and started playing in the CPL as a rising freshman in 2019 was honored as both a First Team selection in the outfield and a Second Team honoree as a starting pitcher in 2024. Such recognition was a fitting end to quite the playing career for Morgan, as his accolades now include being selected as a member of the All-CPL Teams in three different seasons: 2021 (Second Team outfield), 2022 (First Team designated hitter/utility) and then twice (as an outfielder and starting pitcher) in 2024.

Overall and for the second consecutive season, the Peninsula Pilots led the league in total selections with 10. Morehead City followed with six, while Martinsville, Wilmington, and Wilson each had five honorees. Asheboro, Forest City, and Lexington County were next with four players apiece. Tallying three selections each were Boone, Florence, Greenville, Holly Springs, and Tri-City, while High Point-Thomasville and Macon closed with one each.
