HOLLY SPRINGS, NC– The Holly Springs Salamander ended their two-game losing skid Friday night defeating the Florence Red Wolves by a score of 3-1.  Early homeruns by the Salamanders proved to be enough behind excellent pitching all night out of the bullpen.

Holly Springs did not waste any time getting a run on the board in the first inning.  Caleb Denny blasted a solo shot over the right field wall with two outs to put the Salamanders ahead 1-0.  Denny’s homerun was his first official hit in the Coastal Plain League this season.

Isaac Coffey made his debut on the mound for the home team.  Coffey threw five complete innings only giving up six hits, no runs, and fanning six Red Wolves in the process of picking up his first win of the season.

Clay Woeste, playing second base, reached on a throwing error by Red Wolves starter Andrew Shaw in the second frame.  Woeste would come around to score on the RBI single from Caden Miller to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Sals’ grabbed their last run of the game on a solo shot from Cody Muncy in the fourth inning to lead off the half inning.  Muncy was the second Salamander of the game to have his first hit of the season also be a homerun.

The Red Wolves would score an unearned run while Ben Simon was on the mound.  A throwing error from Simon would score Alex Peterson from second, who led off the inning with a standing double.  Red Wolves trailed 3-1 and that result would hold.

Andrew Davis earned his first save of the year striking out two of the final three batters he faced.

The Salamanders return to Ting Stadium again on Saturday and Sunday games against the affiliate South Wake Shakes.  Both games will be seven inning contests, followed by a homerun derby.  You can catch all the action on flobaseball.tv
