The Salamanders fell short with a 5-6 loss to the Wilson Tobs Thursday night.

The starting pitcher for the Salamanders Logan Lee took the loss, conceding four hits and five runs. Lee’s four strikeouts weren’t enough to stop Wilson. Tanner Halvorson took the win for the Tobs with a save from Evan Harris.

Off to a hot start, Davis Meche earned the Salamanders a run at the top of the third with an RBI double. After a throwing error, Wilson gave up another run to Holly Springs.

At the bottom of the fifth, the Tobs took the lead after Matt Schark hit the first grand slam of the Coastal Plain League’s season. An additional RBI single by Sam Daggers padded the lead (5-3).

Top of the ninth, the Salamanders put up a good fight in attempts to tie the game. A string of singles scored Brett Calahan and Connor Coolahan to make the game a close 5-6 with a win for the Tobs.

The Salamanders will play the Morehead City Marlins Friday at 7:00pm in Morehead City. Next Thursday the Salamanders will be back to play the Tobs in Wilson.
