HOLLY SPRINGS, NC- The Holly Springs Salamanders come from behind to defeat the Wilmington Sharks by a final score of 9-7 on Thursday night. The Salamanders’ 12 hits powered their way on top in a high scoring affair. Holly Springs now leads the season series 4-3 with one more game to be played in Wilmington later this season.
Caleb Denny leadoff for the Salamanders in the bottom of the first with a solo home run to put Holly Springs on the board after a three-run first from the visiting team. Caleb Denny would reach base all five times tonight going 4-5 with three runs and two rbi.
After two complete, things were looking bad for the ‘Manders as they looked at the scoreboard down 5-1.
Ben Miller was about to change that. A three-run blast into the Salamanders bullpen cut the lead for Wilmington down to a single run, and they would not hold it for much longer.
A four-run fourth inning gave the Sals’ their first lead of the game, as eight batters come to plate. Alex Barker batted in the last two runs to put the home team up 8-5.
Easton Klein pitched three innings out the pen and did not allow an earned run. Klein fanned three and would pick up a team high, fourth win of the season.
Klein and reliever Colin Kulvain would combine for three 1-2-3 innings that would deflate the Sharks high tempo offense that took a bite out of Holly Springs early.
Barker’s encore had not finished quite yet, as he Blasted his fifth homerun of the season off the scoreboard to give the Salamanders a 9-7 lead going to the final two innings.
Andrew Davis pitched the ninth inning, and after walking the first batter he would strike out the next three. Davis picks up his second save of the season in a four-batter inning.
The Salamanders improve to 18-14 on the season, they will travel to Morehead City tomorrow night to take on the Marlins in Big Rock Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00p.m. You can catch the action on flobaseball.tv.
