HOLLY SPRINGS, NC– The Salamanders were able to complete the comeback win, shaking off a bad start to overcome the South Wake Shakes by the final score of 7-3. A four run third inning proved to be the difference maker in the gloomy Father’s Day showdown.
The South Wake Shakes showed that they had completely forgotten about the 13-run loss last night by starting off hot on Sunday afternoon. After the first inning the Shakes found themselves ahead for the first time in their history, 3-0. Four two-out hits by JP Sponseller, Jack Casbarro, JR Gupton and Christian Schmidt were enough to put some pressure on the Salamander defense and pitching staff.
The Salamanders grabbed one run back in the second inning as Marek Chlup crossed home plate on a Clay Woeste RBI, just to make sure Holly Springs would get a little momentum going.
The barrage of Holly Springs run came in the third inning as the home plated four more to jump ahead of the Shakes 5-3. All nine batters would appear at the plate. Miller, Roach, Young and Chlup scored.
Salamander bullpen proved again why they can be considered the best in the league, only allowing three hits, and no runs to score to keep the Shakes at three.
The ‘Manders would add two more in the sixth, both unearned from errors by the defense would ice the game away and improve the series record for Holly Springs to 5-0.
Holly Springs will restart CPL action tomorrow at Big Rock Stadium as the take on the Morehead City Marlins for the first time this season. You can always catch the action on flobaseball.tv
