The Salamanders gained their first CPL win of the season tonight in an 11-4 win against the Martinsville Mustangs.
The game started out strong for both teams, a home run in the top of the first from Mustangs first baseman Drew Needham put the first run on the board followed by a Michael Quinones home run bringing in Gavin Troutman in the bottom of the first left the score 2-1 Salamanders.
The bats stayed hot for Martinsville after a second home run from Ian Francis advancing the score, 2-2 in the second inning.
Ryan Turbeville went three up, three down as the starting pitcher in the top of the third and fourth.
The Salamanders were hot in the bottom of the fourth after hits from Ben Lumsden and Nate Carriere and a walk from Gavin Troutman left the bases loaded for Michael Quinones. A hit from Quinones brought three runners home and advanced the score, 5-2.
Luke Gabrysh pitched three up, three down in the top of the fifth for the Salamanders. Win Johns had an RBI bringing in Ben Lumsden and advancing the score to 6 for Holly Springs.
Tyler Ross, second baseman for the Mustangs hit another home run in the top of the sixth brought the score to 6-3 but not for long before a Josh Kross home run bringing in Jordan Ardoin and advancing the score, 8-3.
Matthew Driver pitched for the Salamanders in the top of the seventh and an RBI from Michael Dattalo brought another run for the Mustangs.
Runs from Gavin Troutman, Jordan Ardoin, and Ben Lumsden left the final score to be 11-4 after Michael Foltz Jr. pitched three up, three down in the top of the ninth.
The Salamanders are on the road tomorrow and will face the 5-2 Morehead City Marlins.
