In Sunday’s Hug-A-Truck home game, the Holly Springs Salamanders fell to the Wilson Tobs 3-2.

Action was under way at Ting Park at 5:40 p.m. on Sunday. This was the second matchup of the season between the Salamanders and the Tobs, with the first resulting in a 6-1 win for Wilson on its home field. Luke House was the starting pitcher for Holly Springs and pitched three up, three down to kick off the night. Michael Quinones had the first hit of the game in the bottom of the first with a double, but the inning ended without a score.

Wilson had its first hit of the game in the top of the second, but Holly Springs held its opponent. The Salamanders batted three up, three down to finish the inning. Two hits and an error aided the Tobs in bringing in two runs in the third. The Salamanders failed to put up any hits or runs to end the third. Wilson had a strong start to the fourth, with the first batter hitting a single. The team went on to have two hits and one run in the fourth inning to advance its lead to 3-0. Center fielder Nate Carriere had a hit for Holly Springs in the bottom of the fourth, but the team didn’t earn a place on the scoreboard.

Jordan Brewer took over on the mound for the Salamanders in the fifth and pitched three up, three down. Despite no hits in the bottom of the inning, an error and four walks allowed Holly Springs to put up two runs to lessen its deficit. Brewer pitched three up, three down again in the top of the sixth. The Salamanders batted three up, three down for a quick inning.

Nick Gisclair pitched for Holly Springs in the seventh and held Wilson to no hits. The Salamanders also had no hits in the seventh inning to keep the score at 3-0. Jacob Coffin became the Salamanders’ fourth pitcher of the night in the eighth inning and allowed no hits or runs. Holly Springs failed to even the score in the bottom of the inning. A double play helped the Salamanders hold the Tobs in the ninth, but the team was unable to complete a comeback attempt, falling 3-0.

The Salamanders will return to Ting Park on Wednesday for a 6:30 pm matchup against the Southwest Shakes.
