HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C.- Holly Springs took a victory over the Asheboro Zookeepers tonight in a 12-5 win. The Zookeepers did not come back after an explosive fifth inning from the Salamanders.
The Salamanders (10-13) capitalized off an Andrew Grande (Walters State CC) home run in the fourth to get the bats swinging. Four runs scored by Mika Petersen (Brown), Nate Carriere (UT-Tyler), Josh Kross (Eastern Michigan), and Garrett Pennington (NC State) in the bottom of the fifth gave Holly Springs a lead they would not lose.
Peyton Brown (2-0, Campbell) earned the win tonight after pitching 1.1 innings, allowing four runs and four hits.
Tristan Purser picks up the loss for Asheboro after allowing one run and leaving three on base.
The Salamanders will be a split squad tomorrow, July 1 as they are in Wilson to face the Tobs and at Ting Stadium against the Catawba Valley Stars in an exhibition game.
