HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C.- Holly Springs picked up its first win against the Wilmington Sharks on Friday, June 16 at Ting Stadium. The Salamanders rallied in the bottom of the seventh with a pair of runs to seal the victory.
The only run of the night for Wilmington (8-7) came from an Aaron Smigelski RBI single to bring in Luke Nowak in the top of the first and they would not advance the score again.
The Salamanders (4-10) pulled ahead in the bottom of the seventh after a walk with bases loaded brought home Andrew Grande (Walters State CC) and a Nate Carriere (UT-Tyler) putout plated Carlos Pena (Missouri), with the go-ahead run.
Luke Gabrysh (W, 2-0, St. Joseph’s) earned the win for Holly Springs pitching two innings allowing only one hit and striking out three.
Patrick Dunn (Sv., 1, Wichita State) picked up the save by fanning a pair and stranding the tying and go-ahead runs on base.
Holly Springs travels to High Point-Thomasville on Saturday night for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch and will be back in Ting Stadium on Sunday, June 18 to face the Asheboro Zookeepers at 5:40 p.m. Sunday is Father’s Day and tickets can be found online at SalamandersBaseball.com.
