HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. – The Wilson Tobs used a three-run fifth inning to pull ahead of Holly Springs and never looked back on Tuesday night, downing the Salamanders 9-3 at Ting Stadium.
Wilson (7-3) scored a trio of runs in the fifth as the Salamanders walked three and hit a pair of batters to aid the cause.
Holly Springs (2-10) tied the game at two in the fourth on the strength of a Josh Kross (Eastern Michigan) solo home run.
JD McCraken (W, 1-0) earned the victory for Wilson after logging five innings with only three runs and four strikeouts.
Jacob Bimbi (Tennessee) tossed four innings with eight strikeouts for the Salamanders but did not factor into the decision.
Holly Springs travels to Forest City on Thursday night for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch but returns to Ting Stadium on Friday night to take on the Wilmington Sharks. First pitch on Friday is slated for 6:30 p.m. and tickets are available online at SalamandersBaseball.com
