Recap Week 9 of Season X

HOLLY SPRINGS, NC Another big week for the Holly Springs Salamanders. The Salamanders went 4-2 on the week with one game suspended with the Salamanders ahead. It was a huge week for the Salamanders as just two weeks remain before the playoffs and the Salamanders are in a fight for one of the 3 spots in the East Division.

Saturday, July 19 was Golf Night at Ting Stadium. The Salamanders took the field against the Sharks backed by 1,228 fans looking forward to a fun night mixing golf with baseball. At the front gates, Mobile Mulligans, the presenting partner of the night, had a golf simulator for fans, and players, to try out.  The on-field activities included 90-foot putts, dizzy putter and a bungee battle where contestants got to go home with prizes such as gift bags and gift cards from local golf companies such as, X-Golf, Sully’s Golf & Gather, PinPoint, and Knights Play. The Salamanders took a 1-0 lead early courtesy of a Lukas Schramm (Campbell University) hit that scored Hudson Ellis (Dallas Baptist). Collins Black (NC State) looked dominant on the mound; however, as the top of the fifth inning came, the rain did as well. Activities got put on pause for a weather delay which ultimately led to the suspension of the game. The game will resume on Sunday, July 27 at 4 p.m. as a double header.

Sunday, July 20 was Pink Out Night. Fans came decked out in their pink gear to support the cause and by the front gate there was a wall set up for fans to fill out “I play for” cards in honor of those who they know who have battled breast cancer. The Salamanders took a commanding 7-0 lead after two innings, two of those runs coming off a Hudson Ellis double. The Salamanders continued to remain in control of the ball game, tacking on four more runs in the bottom of the sixth. In the top of the seventh, Parker Jones (Davidson) came in to take care of business. He allowed no hits with two strikeouts securing the victory for the Salamanders. Post game activities included the fan favorite, Kids Run the Bases, with over 100 kids getting to high five their favorite players as they raced around the bases. The team was decked out in pink as well with custom pink jerseys that were auctioned off with proceeds being donated to the Pretty in Pink Foundation.

The Salamanders are back in action Tuesday, July 22 against the Wilson Tobs in Wilson, NC and will return to Ting Stadium Thursday, July 24 for the final Bark in the Park of the season. Thursday’s game is sponsored by Kind Behavioral Health and will be the perfect event for humans and dogs to attend!
