'Her'story in the Making
HOLLY SPRINGS, NC – The Holly Springs Salamanders continue to add to what’s shaping up to be a historic 10th season. For the first time in team history, and in the 28-year history of the Coastal Plain League, the Salamanders have signed a female player to the roster. We proudly announce the signing of Alexia Jorge, a catcher from Saint Elizabeth University.
Saint Elizabeth University is a DIII institution in Florham Park, New Jersey. On April 12, 2022, Jorge became just the second female to catch in a college game. Prior to college, she played with the U.S. Baseball Women’s National Team. The 2019 U.S. Baseball WNT that she was apart of would go on to become gold medalist at the Pan American Championships.
“We’re thrilled to add Alexia to our team as she will make CPL history”, said General Manager Michael Villafana. “We can’t wait to see how she makes her impact on the Salamanders this season.”
Jorge will finish her senior campaign with SEU Eagles and then head to Holly Springs, N.C., to become a Salamander! She has continued to break through barriers in the sport and is excited to do the same in Holly Springs. When asked about coming to Holly Springs, Jorge said, “I’m looking forward to day one of the season. Let’s get to work!”
