HOLLY SPRINGS, NC – The No. 3 Holly Springs Salamanders used a two-run eighth inning to defeat No. 4 Wilsons Tobs 4-1 Friday night at Ting Field. Friday’s victory was Holly Spring’s first win over the Tobs this season.
Alex Barker hit a homerun in the bottom of the eighth, sending home Baxter Halligan for the third earned run. Barker has had four at bats this season with all four being home runs. Halligan also earned an RBI for the Salamanders in the bottom of the sixth with a double, sending home Jake Gitter for the second earned run of the night.
Andrew Davis (1-0) made his sixth appearance Friday night, pitching 3.1 innings and only allowing one hit and picking up his first victory of the season.
Paul Sullivan (0-2) suffered the loss giving up three runs (three earned) in his 3.0 innings pitched.
The Tobs were never able to gain a lead but tied up the game in the top of the third. Dylan Scaranda was able to advance to third, sending Brainy Rojas home for the first and only earned run for the Tobs.
The Salamanders will travel to Buck Hardee Field at Legion Stadium located in Wilmington, N.C. to take on the Wilmington Sharks. The game is scheduled for a 7 pm start time. You can catch the game on flobaseball.tv
